What a difference 10 hours makes, and what a perfect sesssion.
Same kit and same location as this mornings sail, but more wind and more
waves and things were just perfect. It felt as though all my other recent
sessions were simply practise session for the real thing that we had this
evening... Proper SW wind and waves and true Borth conditions.
Darren was already on the beach and had been out all afternoon, along with
a few others who had all packed up and gone home. He said they all left
dejected and beaten by the conditions at Borthm having spent the day
getting beaten up by the whitewater. As far as I could tell it was one of
their first forays onto the sea, and Borth in a SW, even in August, isn't
the place for the faint-hearted!!
Darren and I soon got on the water. I was perfectly powered up and balsting
out through the white-water then boosting some pretty big jumps off the
steeper waves out the back. Right out the back there were some nice bug
overhead high swells to sail on and gybe on, before heading back in towards
the shore at ridiculous speeds. My Hifly board isn't really made for wvaes,
but it coped OK.
Darren was struglling this time to get out through the waves, as he was
pretty exhausted after sailing all afternoon. I however was having a whale
of a time, sailing whereever I wanted whenever I wanted, getting some big
jumps and some really nice backside wave-rides.
Miguel came to the beach to go kite0surfing, but thought better of it when
he saw the conditions and just flew a small foil on the beach instead.
As far as I was concerned it was just a perfect session, and I was sailing
as well as I ever have.
